Moranbah police help 3,500 tonnes of dragline cross the Peak Downs Highway

They say that every day is different in the QPS and Thursday, August 10, was certainly a new experience for the general duties officers at Moranbah Police Station.

It’s not everyday you are asked to ensure that all 3,500 tonnes of Marian 850 dragline crosses the Peak Downs Highway safely and without incident.

The dragline is travelling between Goonyella Riverside Mine and Coppabella Mine at a whopping 3km per day on its 540 wheels. The dragline, which is being moved by BHP, is also 60 metres long and 40 metres high.

Moranbah Police had the pleasure of ensuring the dragline’s safe crossing of the Peak Downs Highway as it continues on its very slow journey towards Coppabella Mine, where it is anticipated to arrive around September/October.

All in a days work in the Central Highlands.
